Protein snacks

What are protein snacks?

Protein snacks with lots of protein – that's what you want from protein-rich snacks for between meals. Protein snacks are often associated with low-calorie alternatives to the conventional supermarket variety, but this is only partially true, as protein snacks also contain calories! Protein snacks are ideal for a healthy source of protein between meals or when you don't feel like constantly mixing a protein shake.

What are the benefits of protein snacks?

Protein-rich snacks, as the name suggests, have a high protein content and provide your muscles with important building blocks. Protein snacks often have the advantage of tasting almost exactly like the original version (see Nutella vs. Protein Nutella), but at the same time, they contain much less sugar and are usually supplemented/replaced with a protein-rich mixture to both save calories and provide the body with healthier nutrients.

Do protein snacks make you fat?

That depends on several factors. Firstly, it depends entirely on how many calories you consume per day, how many calories your food or protein snacks contain, and how they fit into your daily calorie plan. For example, athlete A has a daily expenditure of 2,500 calories and sets a goal of only consuming 2,000 calories a day. This puts them in a daily calorie deficit of 500 calories, which means that the pounds should fall off over a period of several weeks until your body gets used to the new calorie expenditure. In this context, it's all about the amateur athlete not exceeding their target calorie intake. Then protein snacks won't make you fat! Quite the opposite: many protein snacks contain fiber and really fill you up.

Are protein snacks healthy?

That depends on how you define "healthy." Protein snacks are generally known as a healthy alternative to supermarket snacks. Protein snacks generally contain no processed sugar (in most cases), which is why they are also considered healthier.

What disadvantages can protein snacks have?

The biggest notable disadvantage is that protein snacks are usually relatively expensive compared to conventional snacks. Protein snacks contain more expensive ingredients and are more elaborately produced. They also have healthier nutritional values and provide more energy.

Advantages of protein snacks over conventional snacks:

  • Better nutritional values from a sports perspective (fewer calories, more protein)
  • Taste almost the same as the real cheat snacks
  • Depending on the calorie content, it can also be consumed in a diet
