The prostate – the male organ that is at high risk of disease.
What is the prostate?
The prostate is the male prostate gland, which is known to be at risk of disease over the course of a lifetime. The prostate is an organ that serves to produce sperm and is a key component of a man's fertility. It is involved in producing some of the seminal fluid.
What diseases can the prostate suffer from?
The most common prostate disorder is prostate enlargement, which occurs predominantly in older men. Prostate enlargement is divided into benign and malignant, as in many cases the prostate grows in a benign manner, which is also normal with age. Only malignant prostate enlargement is life-threatening, as it has a high tendency to metastasize and can therefore quickly spread metastases (secondary tumors) to the spine and pelvis. However, there are also minor prostate disorders that are more related to daily lifestyle habits (poor urinary flow, pain in the genital area), such as excessive sitting and, for example, wearing very tight pants.
Prostate problems – what are the symptoms?
- Frequent, unexplained trips to the toilet due to excessive urination (during the day)
- Excessively frequent nighttime toilet visits
- Slight pain when urinating
Is there any proper prevention for prostate diseases?
The only reliable preventative measure is a prostate screening with a doctor, as this is where you can reliably have your prostate health checked. There is no real prophylaxis, as it can always be a hereditary condition that manifests or not depending on your predisposition. As a general rule, you should always consult your doctor about prostate screening, as speculative self-initiation carries a great risk for an organ like the prostate that is at risk for cancer. Another factor can be dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is essentially the most biologically active form of testosterone and is formed from testosterone by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. It has not been 100% proven, but DHT can be responsible for both benign and malignant prostate enlargement.
Which supplements or active ingredients can help prevent prostate diseases?
There are several herbal active ingredients that can help as natural support for prostate prophylaxis. A very popular and effective herbal substance is saw palmetto extract. Saw palmetto extract has an effect on problems with excessive urination (urination), which is caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. Saw palmetto extract is also used to treat hair loss, although there are only a few (conclusive) studies on this, and this effect is not yet 100% proven. At Muscle-Lab, we offer you some very high-quality supplements for prostate protection and prevention.
